Happy New Year and welcome to 2024! I hope you ended 2023 in a good space and are getting ready for what this year will bring. My gut tells me that this will be a “reset” year. I think we will see a bit of a return to what most of us think is normalcy. But it won’t be easy.
You don’t have to look very far to find someone who will tell you whatever story you want to hear, but the reality is that the entitlement mentality that is so pervasive today is not sustainable. Dire Straits sang about it, but “Money for Nothing” is just not practical. Employers have been over the barrel lately with a need to hire people to help get the job done. With those desperate hires, you get people who really don’t want to work. We saw that in several trends that emerged last year, including quiet quitting and any time workers were not giving their best efforts. Because warm bodies were hard to find, the employers were unwilling to hold people accountable.
