Christin: The Ottobock C-Brace Has Changed My Life Christin loves to be in motion. Travelling, working in the garden, walking with her dog, Lucy-and getting to out-of-the-way places to fulfill her passion for drawing. Christin has been wearing the C-Brace orthotronic mobility system since April 2012. Until that time, she had to rely on a wheelchair, but the wheelchair stays at home now. "The C-Brace has changed my life," she says, beaming. Only a year before she had to depend on conventional braces, but not anymore. "Stairs, inclines, uneven surfaces-it's all easier with the C-Brace." Christin's journey to the C-Brace began with the removal of two benign tumors and consequent complications during a follow-up visit. "I walked into the hospital and was discharged in a wheelchair," she explains. But she never lost her zest for life: "I am a very positive person and never wanted to curl up in a corner and cry." The breakthrough for Christin came when she found out she would be getting the C-Brace orthotronic mobility system. To get ready for it, she built up her strength with physical therapy. Once she was fit with the C-Brace, the transition was relatively easy and only took two days. "The C-Brace lets me walk without having to think about every step" she says. "I've still not fallen down while wearing it." Since her C-Brace fitting, she's been able to dedicate more time to her hobbies, including swimming, drawing, traveling, and long walks with her Jack Russell terrier, Lucy. That includes clambering over roots and rugged hiking paths downhill to Lucy's favorite stream. "Lucy always had to do that on her own before-she didn't think that was too great," she says with a laugh. Now, Christin can go along with her.
