The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes for 2018 with just three changes to O&P-related codes, according to the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA). The coding changes go into effect for claims with a date of service on or before January 1, 2018.
The new codes are L-3761 (elbow orthosis with adjustable position locking joint(s), prefabricated, off-the shelf) and L-7700 (Gasket or seal, for use with prosthetic socket insert, any type, each). The descriptor for L-3760 has changed to “elbow orthosis, with adjustable position locking joint(s), prefabricated, item that has been trimmed, bent, molded, assembled, or otherwise customized to fit a specific patient by an individual with expertise.” The old descriptor was “elbow orthosis, with adjustable position locking joint(s), prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustments.”
AOPA’s coding and reimbursement committee will review the list of changes and provide comments to CMS.
