Following the recommendation of the PDAC, Endolite has been working with CMS to establish a new code that adequately describes the function of the élan microprocessor foot system. In a preliminary decision, CMS has verified that the élan meets the requirements of the L-5973 code. At the annual CMS public meeting, it was confirmed by Bonnie Brooks (HCPCS Coding Manager) that Endolite should recommend the use of L-5973 for coding of the élan foot effective immediately. While the initial decisions are not generally official until notification in November, it was confirmed by Cynthia Hake (CMS HCPCS Workgroup Chairperson) that Brooks’ statement was, in effect, code verification from the insurer.
In accordance with their decision, Endolite suggests the use of L-5973 for the élan foot.
Endolite will continue to work with CMS to establish an addition code to adequately describe the unique clinical benefits the élan provides the user beyond that described in the existing L-5973 code. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your Endolite Territory Manager or a member of our Clinical Staff.
