Barry Waller Townsend, CPO, passed away at home in Bakersfield, California, on Friday, November 9. He was 66 years old. He was born on July 14, 1952, and grew up in Oildale, California.
Townsend owned and operated Valley Institute of Prosthetics and Orthotics (VIPO) in Bakersfield for 30 years prior to his retirement. His son, Trevor Townsend, CPO, is a co-owner of VIPO.
Townsend is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen Townsend; his children Trevor and Annalisa Townsend, Melanie and Scott Frank, Danielle and Matthew Moon, and Alicia Townsend; nine grandchildren; and four siblings.
