Jumping into 2010

Here at The O&P EDGE, we're jumping into 2010 with both feet. We're starting off the new year with a thriving print magazine and a growing online community. One of the things I'm most excited about is the recent launch of blogs on oandp.com.

These blogs are designed to do more than provide another source of O&P expertise. Our blog team is looking for your questions, comments, experience, and knowledge so that together you can create a dynamic exchange of information as you try new things and contribute unique solutions to the clinical and business challenges you face every day.

If you haven't already, check out Jon Batzdorff's blog, "Elevated Vacuum Prosthetics," and Patty Johnson's blog, "Marketing Matters," at www.oandp.com/blogs . New bloggers are on the horizon, so stay tuned to see who will be next to join our online community.

I am also pleased to announce that we have added three new members to The O&P EDGE editorial advisory board (EAB). Dennis Clark, CPO; Chris Lake, CPO, LPO, FAAOP; and Tony Wickman, RTPO, have joined the EAB, effective January 1.

Dennis is president of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America (OPGA) and POINT Health Centers of America, Waterloo, Iowa. During his 30-plus-year career, he has served as a prosthetic and orthotic instructor at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, a past president of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC), a former board member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy), and a former president of the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) Region 7.

Chris is the clinical director for Advanced Arm Dynamics Southwest Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) and the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO). He serves as a clinical instructor in upper-limb prosthetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and is the chair of the Academy's Upper Limb Prosthetics Society.

Tony is the owner of Freedom Fabrication. He began his O&P career in 1984 and has practiced as both an O&P technician and clinician. He has served on ABC's Technician Registration Exam and Continuing Education committees and the Academy's Technician Education committee. He is the co-founder and vice chair of the Fabrication Science Society and serves as treasurer and board member of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Technological Association (OPTA).

This month in The O&P EDGE, we turn our attention to best practices in providing humanitarian care in developing nations (" First, Do No Harm ,") and follow up on our July 2009 coverage of the ABC technician scope-of-practice survey (" O&P Technicians Catch the Wave ").
