The technical and clinical vision behind the ORION has always been to create a microprocessor knee built to provide optimal movement, speed control, and security features for K3-level users with low to moderate activity. We seek to continually improve and enhance our technology to adapt our products to the needs of the amputee and that is exactly what we have done with the ORION. While the ORION already offers users the stability and confidence to perform daily routines, we have added new features to benefit them even more. From fixed angle flexion lock to an enhanced yield rate, the ORION has been readapted to fit the needs of everyday life, and also let the user participate in more activities so they can get busy living.
ORION Programming and Software
By utilizing both the OnBoard Smart Programming and the new ORION software, the practitioner can ensure that the ORION is programmed and customized to each patient’s individual walking patterns. The OnBoard Smart Programming allows the practitioner to manually adjust and fine-tune the knee. The ORION software allows the practitioner to adjust and fine-tune via the computer by using the Bluetooth connection that is embedded in the knee. The software allows for monitoring of kinetic and kinematic gait parameters, as well as record and save user details and settings to the database.
Enhanced Yield Rate and Improved Adjustable Speed Control
The enhanced yield rate allows for more support over a larger range of knee flexion. This means that as the user flexes the knee, they can now flex further with more hydraulic support. This helps in squatting, lowering into chairs, descending stairs step over step, and aids in stumble recovery. The fine-tuning capabilities of the ORION allow the knee to be completely customized to function and react to how the user walks. The ability to fine-tune via OnBoard Smart Programming or the ORION software makes the ORION versatile for both the patient and the practitioner.
Fixed Angle Flexion Lock and Cycling/Free Swing Mode
The fixed angle flexion lock allows the practitioner to enable and program a limit on the flexion angle of the knee that can then be initiated by the user when needed. When initiated, this feature will automatically stop the knee from flexing beyond the set angle. This feature is great for activities such as golfing, standing for long periods of time, or going to the batting cage. The cycling/free swing mode is also enabled by the practitioner to become available to the user when needed. Now the avid cyclist can initiate the free swing mode allowing the knee to release stance when riding a bike.
