INTERBOR: The Nomenclature Is Now Ready

Now starts the work with the nomenclature A system for defining orthopaedic products has been long required.

INTERBOR, the International Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists, unveiled the Beta version of the first practical "Nomenclature" at a working seminar in Haarlem near Amsterdam.

A work group of 8 specialists from 7 countries explained the strict logical structure of the system and how a CD-ROM functions to 40 interested association members and guests from all over Europe and South Africa. The nomenclature provides all users with an ultra-rapid overview of the aids available. Its greatest advantage is that all aids and parts of these aids are clearly named and described internationally with this nomenclature. The index comprises some 400 aids to date, which are easy to find with descriptions and drawings. The index, available in English at this time, is constantly expanded and is being translated into the most important European languages.

All existing standards, regulations and classifications are taken into consideration and are integrated in this nomenclature. As a result, for the first time there is a transparency of the entire spectrum of prostheses and ortheses on offer for patients, doctors, health authorities, and health insurance schemes.
