Heather Mills-McCartney To Speak at ACA Meeting

Heather Mills-McCartney Heather Mills-McCartney, famed amputee activist and wife of Paul McCartney, will headline the closing ceremonies at the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) 13th Annual Educational Conference & Exposition July 3-5 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Known for her philanthropic work around the globe, Mills-McCartney has tirelessly campaigned for over 11 years to raise funds and awareness to rid the world of landmines. She is a patron of Adopt-a-Minefield and a United Nations Association Goodwill Ambassador.

The focus of this years' conference is "Education, Empowerment, and Independence," and carrying out this theme will be three specialized educational tracks: Recreation/Fitness, Health/Education, and Psychosocial. New discussion groups will be offered to promote networking among persons sharing experience with limb loss. Topics will include "New Amputees," "Hip/Hemi Issues," "Upper-Extremity," "Cancer," "Nonprosthetic Users," "Caregivers," "Veterans," and "Older Amputees," among others.

This year's meeting will see a couple of "firsts"" a "New Attendee Orientation" tour to help first-time attendees and others to gain more from the conference experience, and a partnership with a registration company to streamline the registration process and eliminate long check-in lines. Meals will be approved by a registered dietician to insure nutritional value and suitability, the ACA noted

Going into its fourth year is the ACA Annual Youth Camp, held simultaneously with the conference. The camp provides a venue and recreational activities for young people aged 10-18 to help them interact with and support each other.

The ACA Expo will give attendees to a chance to take an in-depth look at new prosthetic products and services.
