On July 9, Louisiana became the 38th state to pass direct access
legislation by which physical therapists can provide services to
patients without a physician’s referral. At present, the only
states not having some form of direct access by a licensed physical
therapist are Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana,
Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Ohio, and
Oklahoma.
