Snell To Host Fitness Clinic

A "Fitness for Everyone" workshop for lower-limb amputees will be hosted by Snell Prosthetic & Orthotic Laboratory, Little Rock, Arkansas, on September 20 at the Immanuel Baptist Church Recreation Center in Little Rock.

Three-time Paralympic track and field champions Dennis Oehler and Todd Schaffhauser created this one-day clinic with support from Endolite and the O&P Assistance Fund (OPAF). The clinic's purpose is to offer above- and below-knee amputees instruction, encouragement, and insights regarding stretching and strengthening, walking and running, and achieving individual physical goals.

Oehler and Schaffhauser have presented hundreds of clinics around the world and helped thousands of amputees to enjoy the rewards of personal achievement, physical fitness, and social interaction, it was noted.

Lower limb amputees of all ages, their families, and supporters are all encouraged to attend. Continuing education credits are available to rehabilitation team members and specialists, including prosthetists and orthotists, physical therapists, case managers, and others. "Fitness for Everyone" encourages rehab team members to extend patient care beyond the clinical setting.

Basic and advanced stretching and strengthening exercises for every age and every level of amputation will encourage lower limb amputees to engage in an active lifestyle by improving mobility through a regular home exercise program. Hands-on participation and assistance by trained professionals and/or family members help amputees to progress toward more efficient walking or running. Rehab therapy and sports professionals will learn exercise programs to help amputee patients progress toward more advanced gait training, and to orient them early in the rehab process toward an active, productive lifestyle. All profits benefit the O&P Assistance Fund, a nonprofit organization and a 501(c) (3) public charity.
