The Region A Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier (DMERC)
Program Safeguard Contractor (PSC) is conducting a widespread
service-specific prepayment probe review of Diabetic Shoes and
Inserts, HCPCS codes A5500, A5501, K0628, and K0629, according to
the Pedorthic Footwear Association (PFA). Data analysis indicates a
significant increase in allowed charges in Region A for this
service, PFA noted. Service-specific probe reviews are used to
determine the extent of a potential problem across multiple
suppliers.
