BOC Holds Special Summer Election

BOC Board of Directors Special Election Results

The Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC) announces that the following practitioners have been elected by the certificant body to serve a four-year term on the Board of Directors ending December 31, 2008.

William (Bill) K. Fredenburg BOCO, CO, resides in upstate New York and currently works for Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics as a business development manager for New York and New Jersey. He has more than 16 years experience in orthotics with a core expertise in spinal and pediatrics. He is a lead examiner for the BOC Item Writers Committee and past president of the IAOP. Fredenburg is an instructor for orthopedic residents, physical therapist students, and for the Hanger Education Health Fair.

Polly-Jo Hightower BOCO, CMF, has been involved in the O&P field since 1973. "In the past 33 years I have witnessed the scientific growth in our field that few of us could have imagined." She became an orthotist, BOC-Certified in 1985 and has worked primarily in the Cumberland, Maryland and Keyser, West Virginia areas. Both of her family-owned facilities are BOC Accredited Facilities and the Keyser Office is also Joint Commission Accredited. For several years Hightower served on the BOC Item Writing Committee and as a video practical exam examiner, and in the past served on the IAOP Advisory Committee.

Additionally, due to a recent resignation, new officers elected by the Board of Directors serving until December 31, 2005, are:

Chair, E. Beth Durham, BOCO, CMF, CPed

Vice Chair, Michael Madden, BOCPO

Secretary, Melinda Janowitz, COF, CMF

Treasurer, Paul T. Webber, BOCPO

Immediate Past-Chair, Harry (JR) Brandt, Jr., BOCO

BOC recognizes the value of providing leadership succession and term limits, allowing the Board to refresh itself. The Board of Directors is a policy making entity and functions to carry out the purposes and objectives of the organization. The Board hires the CEO to manage, control, and supervise overall business activities. Board membership is a volunteer position, not to exceed eight years consecutively. BOC is a 501(6) not-for-profit corporation founded in 1984.
