The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund Inc. (OPAF) hosted
two successful First clinics in the Chicago area in May, OPAF
reported. On Friday, May 19, OPAF, along with physical therapy
doctoral candidate Diane Kabat, hosted a First Swing/Learn to Golf
clinic at the Addison Links and Tees facility in Addison, Illinois.
Ten therapists were introduced to the techniques of adaptive golf
by First Swing instructors, Bud Sanders, Don Zommer, Ben Murray,
and Dan Cox. The afternoon session brought six physically
challenged individuals to the Links and Tees facility so that the
therapists had a chance for some “hands on” application of what
they had learned. Robin Burton, OPAF executive director, and Darren
Kindred, OPAF Advisory Board member and First Volley Tennis
director, participated in both sessions.
