Gary Mahler has been named the new president at PEL Supply Company, Cleveland, Ohio, the company announced August 18. Mahler succeeds Bob Boff who assumes the title of president emeritus until his retirement in 2008.

Mahler joined PEL in 2004, as director of sales with responsibility for sales and new business development, as well as customer communications and relationship management. However, his activities rapidly expanded to include marketing, purchasing and many different aspects of PEL's operations, the company noted. Before joining PEL Supply, Mahler held several management positions with Maytag Corporation. He holds a bachelor of science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Boff was hired by PEL founder Paul E. Leimkuehler in 1966 to help run the business end of the company. "Bob literally learned about PEL Supply from every possible angle, from bookkeeping and inventory control to customer service, shipping and receiving," the company said. "His dedication and initiative fueled his eventual rise to vice president. He was able to sustain PEL's growth after Mr. Leimkuehler passed away and has served as PEL's president for 13 years. During that time he was instrumental in adding staff, product lines, new facilities, and the latest technologies to support PEL's continued expansion."

Boff was generous with his praise for Mahler. "Once Gary was here, it became obvious he had talents in many areas beyond sales. We recognized this and expanded his scope of responsibilities to encompass learning all areas of PEL's business." This led to Boff seeing his eventual retirement become much easier. "I believe I found someone that I felt confident could step into the leadership role and continue to grow PEL's business the way I--and ultimately Paul Leimkuehler--had always envisioned," Boff said.

"I'm really thrilled to have Bob Boff available as a resource during this transitional phase," Mahler said. "I feel that his operational expertise, and his industry relationships with vendors, suppliers and--perhaps most importantly, practitioners--will be invaluable."
