Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt has
named Leslie Norwalk as acting administrator for the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) effective October 15. Norwalk has
served as deputy administrator for the agency that oversees $740
billion in federal spending on Medicare and Medicaid. She replaces
Mark McClellan, MD, PhD, who resigned from the CMS on September
5.
