Ibrahim Bangura, deputy director of the Mercy Ships New Steps
Centre, Freetown, Sierra Leone, recently returned from the United
Nations’ (UN) Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in
Geneva, Switzerland. Bangura, 46, participated in a UN working
group at the convention, where he presented a paper on behalf of
the non-governmental organization (NGO) coalition from Sierra
Leone. The 40-page paper detailed the services provided for
children in the education and health sectors, as well as the
realization of the principles set in the convention on the rights
of the child that had been signed and ratified by Sierra Leone in
1980.
