By Rosielena Jované C. Alberto E. Castillo Moreno, O.P. Alberto E. Castillo Moreno was that famous gentleman known by the whole of Latin America as "the man who does the World of O&P Bulletin in Spanish." Don Alberto was born in the city of Torreón, Coahuila, México, September 24, 1940. He was taken away from us suddenly May 25, 2008. He studied prosthetic and orthopedic at the Mexican Rehabilitation Institute (Instituto Mexicano do Rehabilitación) in 1961. Later, in 1965, he founded Casa Castillo prosthetic laboratory, specializing in the prosthetic care of upper- and lower-limb amputees. Twelve years ago he founded "Artículos Ortopédicos," thus supporting the progress of his beloved profession in which he worked up until the day of his death. He was secretary of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Association of the Mexican Republic (Asociación de Protesistas y Ortesistas de la República Mexicana) and thus also in charge of press releases and media relations. The news of his unexpected death spread through Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, and many persons in these regions expressed their sorrow and sympathy. Among them are the following: "All who have had the opportunity to read his written works know that we will never forget him. --Dr. Esteban Perdomo G., ISPO Panamá "The angels needed another good orthotist/prosthetist in heaven! It saddened us that Alberto was appointed to this work." --Juan Carlos Camacho, CIDOP, Mexico "Sr. Alberto Castillo lived and shared with all of us his love for, and dedication to, the profession and patient care. Through the web and "El Mundo de O&P en Español," he offered us a mountain comprising many grains of sand arriving at diverse destinations to bring us closer to this beautiful work in which he lived daily. Thank you, Alberto, for all your contributions to improve our knowledge of O&P and rehabilitation" --Dr. Margarita Fernández, Hospital Ortopédico Infantil, Venezuela "Our deepest sympathy for Alberto's family for this irreparable loss. It was a shock; he was a good colleague and friend." --Eddy Leopoldo Fuentes, Ortopedia Centroamericana, Guatemala "There are few men who pass through this world leaving so many thriving seeds. The educational material that Don Alberto shared with us is the seed that should now germinate in our entire Latin American region in order to enable our service and care to others to prosper." --Dr. José Paúl Rodríguez, ISPO República Dominicana "May the Lord console his family and all of us who feel his absence. It is sad to lose someone who has contributed so much to our society." --Elizabeth Mazariegos, Guatemala "The death of Sr. Alberto Castillo has greatly saddened me, especially because I had the opportunity to talk with him before I left on a trip and because, when I received the news, I was far away from Mexico and his family. May he rest in peace, and my most sincere condolences to all his family members and relatives." --Ing. Marlo Ortiz, México "The news is very saddening, especially since Don Alberto was a key person in bringing together many colleagues in Latin America." --Carlos Robayo, ISPOCOL & ASOCOPPRO, Colombia Evidently, Don Alberto has left us his imprint. He loved teaching and dedicated countless hours and effort to translating important scientific publications from English into Spanish.
