David Puckett, CPO, has progressed to the top-ten list in the
CNN Hero of the Year contest, thanks to votes by visitors to
cnn.com. Puckett has risen through a pool of 3,700 nominees from 75
countries. The proprietor of Positive Image Prosthetics &
Orthotics (PIPO), Savannah, Georgia, was nominated for his
charitable efforts in the Mexican highlands through his nonprofit
organization, PIPO Missions. PIPO Missions provides free prosthetic
and orthotic care and new custom braces and limbs to residents of
rural Yucatan and Chiapas villages. According to PIPO, after
progressing to the top-ten list, Puckett received $25,000 for PIPO
Missions. The final winner will be announced on Thanksgiving Day,
Thursday, November 27, on CNN at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Should Puckett win, he and PIPO Missions will receive $100,000 to
continue their charitable work. Visitors to cnn.com can cast their
votes until Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
