A 15-year-old cancer survivor is celebrating the success of the Challenged Athletes Foundation’s (CAF) newest annual fundraiser, Rock on the Green, by using the running foot and knee he was presented with at the event. The running-prosthesis grant, a cooperative project by actor John Siciliano; Ossur, Reykjavik, Iceland; The FRS Company, Foster City, California; and Amy Ginsburg, CP, CFom, of the Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics office in Laguna Hills, California, will be part of recipient Robert Ram’s first steps toward pursuing high school sports.
“The energy was amazing, and the reward was unmistakable,” said Alan Shanken, chairman of the September 12 event. “It was a spectacular day.”
Rock on the Green attracted more than 250 participants to San Francisco’s scenic Marina Green, where challenged athletes and supporters were able to join in their choice of a high-energy three-hour spin-a-thon®, a 2K/5K walk, or a Catch a Rising Star adaptive sports clinic led by CAF’s elite athletes. Some participants also scaled a climbing wall using an adaptive climbing apparatus under the direction of Mark Wellman, the first person with paraplegia to climb Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome and El Capitan.
With the support of the event’s sponsors and participants, Rock on the Green raised $200,000 for CAF grants and programs.
