Staff Sgt. Heath Calhoun (ret.) is one of five military service members who have become finalists in an online contest to have the Richmond NASCAR Race at Richmond International Raceway, Virginia, named after them. In a promotion by the Crown Royal whiskey brand, The May 1 race will be named after the service member who receives the most votes by Thursday, February 11.
According to the contest website, Calhoun, a double-amputee Paralympic hopeful and former squad leader in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne division, grew up listening to NASCAR races on the radio with his grandfather when their family lived near the Bristol Motor Speedway, one of Tennessee’s NASCAR venues
