President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams to the White House on April 21. Nearly 225 of the total 264 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic athletes visited the nation’s capital to celebrate their achievements.
After the Obamas met each athlete individually, a formal ceremony was held on the State Floor to congratulate the team on their accomplishments.
In addition to their visit to the White House, Team USA athletes also took a tour of the Pentagon, where they met Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. The athletes also met with injured soldiers and marines at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), Washington DC.
