The Infotronics Technology Center (ITC), Canandaigua, New York, has been awarded a $1.4 million contract by the U.S. Army’s Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) to help develop the next generation of prosthetic limbs.
“The project seeks to develop more responsive lower-limb prosthetics for wounded soldiers by developing sensors at the point of interface between the amputee’s limb and the actual prosthesis,” David Gottfried, manager of government and community affairs at Infotonics, was quoted as saying in the Messenger Post.
ITC will develop the control interface, which will be tested and evaluated by researchers at the Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York, department of mechanical and aeronautical engineering. The 12-month contract began on July 1.
