OPAF and The First Clinics, along with Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center, Warwick, New York, hosted McKeever’s First Ride on Saturday, October 16. This is the third consecutive year that Winslow has hosted the event and the first year that it has served as the sponsor as well.
Unable to locate a sponsor, OPAF had decided to cancel the event. Upon hearing the news, Winslow staff and its volunteer group Winslow Incredible Teen Helpers (WITH) raised enough money, through raffles, goldfish sales, and direct solicitation, for the event to go forward.
McKeever’s First Ride saw ten adult amputees and two youth participate in the two-hour clinic that included grooming and groundwork as well as horseback riding in an enclosed arena, according to OPAF.
