The U.S. Health and Human Services Department’s (HHS) National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced that it expects to award a discretionary cooperative-agreement grant for the development and demonstration of clinically useful neuroprosthetic devices. According to the Funding funding Opportunity opportunity Announcement announcement (FOA), the number of awards granted is contingent upon NIH appropriations, and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Budgets for direct costs per year will depend upon specific project requirements, however, the maximum direct costs for any single year may not exceed $1,000,000 per year.
Activities supported in this program include implementation of clinical prototype devices, preclinical safety and efficacy testing, design verification and validation activities, pursuit of regulatory approval for clinical study, and proof-of-concept or pilot clinical studies.
