OPAF has completed all of the legal requirements necessary to change its name to the Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation-from the Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund. The final paperwork was filed with the state of Delaware on December 6, 2011 to make the change official. The “OPAF” acronym will continue to be used.
According to an OPAF press release, the OPAF board determined that the name change was necessary to ensure that the mission of the organization was identified with the name-that of primarily enabling individuals served by the O&P community to enjoy the rewards of personal achievement, physical fitness, and social interaction. A new look for the organization, along with a new website, will be revealed during the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) 38th Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, March 21-24, 2012.
“We are delighted that the name change to Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation reflects the type of services offered by OPAF,” said OPAF President Michael Burton. “The First Clinics have continued to grow and…OPAF remains committed to our mission and we look forward to introducing even more firsts during 2012.”
