Gulbrandson Orthotics and Prosthetics, Cary, Illinois, hosted an OPAF First Dance Clinic on Sunday, February 12, 2012. The adaptive dance instruction event was held at the Holiday Inn Crystal Lake, Illinois, and dance instruction was provided by Cinnamon Trammell and the staff of the Center for Ballroom & Dance at Deer Park, Illinois.
There were more than 50 attendees at the event, including participants, family, and friends. A volunteer group of high school students served as dance partners and extra hands. Instruction was given in the foxtrot, the traveling waltz, the Meringue, and even line dancing.
“The instructors were very sensitive to the pace of this group,” said Gilbert Gulbrandson, CO, LO, CPed, and event host.
“While some of our attendees might not enjoy tennis, or scuba, or horses, almost everyone remembers social dance events from their youth and First Dance offers that chance to dust off your dancing shoes and have a bit of fun,” said Robin Burton, OPAF executive director.
