The Orthotic and Prosthetic Education and Research Foundation (OPERF) recently announced its 2011 Research Awards Program recipients.
- Jason Wening, MS, CPO, FAAOP, Scheck & Siress, Chicago, Illinois, won the Small Grant Award for his paper, “Effects of the Össur AFO Dynamic and a Custom Fabricated Polymer AFO on the Gait of Acute Hemiplegic CVA Subjects.”
- Sara Koehler, MS, Northwestern University (Northwestern), Chicago, won a Fellowship Award for her paper, “Transfemoral Amputee Gait as it Relates to Prosthetic Alignment.”
- Angelika “Kiki” Zissimopoulos, MS, Northwesterm, won a Fellowship Award for her paper, “Effects of Ankle-Foot Orthosis on Foot Placement Post-Stroke: Balance Implications.”
- Brock Sande, CPO, Hanger Clinic, Richland, Washington, won a Resident Travel Award for his paper, “Using Gait Analysis to Compare the Biomechanical Effects of AFOs Designed with a Solid Ankle versus AFOs Designed with a Compression Heel.”
- John Frederick, CPO, LPO, BEP, Scheck & Siress, Oak Park, Illinois, won a Resident Travel Award for his paper, “Transtibial Amputees’ Ability and Knowledge of Socket Management and the Relationship to the Educational Needs of Amputees.”
