Loretta Muilenburg, co-founder of Muilenburg Prosthetics Inc. (MPI), Houston, Texas, was honored at a celebration of her 90th birthday on April 19, at the MPI office. The event, hosted by son Ted Muilenburg, CP, was attended by colleagues, patients, and friends.
The late Al Muilenburg, CPO, and Loretta, an occupational therapist, began the company in 1948. Former residents of Minnesota, Al worked for Minneapolis Artificial Limb before striking out on his own. The first facility was in the couple’s home. Fabrication took place in the garage and sockets were dried in the kitchen oven. MPI has been at its current 10,000-square-foot location since 1950. Loretta is still active in the company, and is in her office several times a week.
