The 2012 Annual Meeting of the International African-American Prosthetic & Orthotic Coalition (IAAPC) was held Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, Florida. Reginald Mays, CP, CFo, owner of United Prosthetics and Orthotics, Jacksonville, hosted the event, now in its 22nd year.
On Thursday night, Mays hosted an evening of entertainment at a Jacksonville luxury entertainment center. IAAPOC members and guests enjoyed bowling, the game room, as well as food and music.
The meeting was well attended and included P&O vendors from around the country. Speakers included individuals from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), patient care facilities, a master’s level P&O program, and O&P manufacturers. Two sessions of note were on microprocessor-controlled knees (MPKs) and partial-hand myoelectric prostheses.
IAAPOC’s 2013 Annual Meeting will be head in March in Atlanta, Georgia. Exact dates have not yet been determined.
