Orthocare Innovations, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has been named to the FierceMedicalDevices 2012 Fierce 15 list, which was established to highlight “innovative and exciting privately held medical device and diagnostic companies,” according to a FierceMedicalDevices press release. FierceMedicalDevices editors Mark Hollmer and Damian Garde, in conjunction with editor-in-chief John Carroll and executive editor Ryan McBride, chose this year’s winners based on their management teams, financial backing, technologies, and market opportunities.
“Orthocare Innovations’ next-generation, adaptive prosthetics promise to make a huge difference for patients who have lost limbs,” Garde said. “By leading their sector in the use of mobile communications and cloud computing, Orthocare Innovations is connecting patients to their devices and their healthcare providers to improve care quality through data-driven, informed clinical decision making.”
Orthocare Innovations’ was recognized specifically for its soon-to-be-launched Magellan MFA®, a microprocessor-controlled foot ankle prosthetic device. Magellan mimics key features of the human ankle that are essential to normal gait, according to the company. Using functionality afforded by iPhone and iPad apps and Bluetooth technology, the Magellan MFA links the device to its user and the user’s healthcare providers. It enables the user to make adjustments to the Magellan themselves-for example, to account for changes in footwear-and it allows healthcare providers to access patient performance and device diagnostics.
Orthocare Innovations and the other 2012 Fierce 15 companies were recognized October 2, at AdvaMed 2012: The Med Tech Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
