Tensegrity Prosthetics, Boulder, Colorado, has announced that Eythor Bender has been appointed as CEO. Bender and the Tensegrity team have also rebranded the company based on its new direction under his guidance. As part of this transition, Tensegrity has changed its name to FitBionic, which it said “reflects the company’s focus on consumer health and humanlike bionic functioning.”
Bender comes to FitBionic from Ekso exoskeleton developer Ekso Bionics, Richmond, California, where he served as CEO. He is also the immediate past president of Össur Americas, Foothill Ranch, California, and an authority on orthopedics and bionics. While at Össur, he and his team built the company from a startup to a global, publicly traded organization with more than 1,600 employees and $380 million per year in revenue.
Bender is a native of Iceland and holds a master’s degree in business and economics from Eberhard Karls Universität, Tübingen, Germany. He is a frequent speaker on innovation at conferences such as TED, TEDMED, and the Aspen Ideas Festival, Colorado. He also serves on the faculty of FutureMed – Singularity University, Moffett Field, California, and is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.
