The second annual Technical Fabrication contest, which will be held at the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) World Congress, September 18-21, 2013, in Orlando, Florida, is accepting submissions through August 30.
The contest task is to fabricate a prosthosis-a combination prosthetic/orthotic device for an individual with a partial-foot amputation. The fabricator is given free rein in terms of the final shape and cosmetic finishing. The contestant chooses the amputation level, but must include a short description specifying the issues addressed in the design of the device. Submissions will be judged on the basis of individuality of design, weight of the device, choice of materials, finished look, and design practicality.
The contest is sponsored by AOPA; the Orthotic & Prosthetic Technological Association (OPTA); Ottobock, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Cascade Orthopedic Supply, Chico, California; and the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC).
