OPAF hosted 22 divers at its largest First Dive Intro to Scuba Clinic at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. The clinic was held March 23, in conjunction with the Dayton Amputee Coalition Limb Loss Education Day.
The clinic was led by Stacey Minton, First Dive’s director of scuba, and assisted by the students and staff of Wright State and local divers. Wright State students were under the direction of their staff leader, Regina Bier, a member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame. Reggie Showers, a two-time motorcycle drag racing champion and bilateral transtibial amputee was one of the attendees.
“Everyone was engaged and first-timers to scuba really seemed to enjoy the activity and value the experience. [I] really enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to see this program in action,” said Lisa Watkins, communications coordinator for WillowWood, Mt. Sterling, Ohio, an OPAF gold level sponsor.
