The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) has announced the appointment of its 2014 board of directors, effective December 1. The executive committee members are as follows:
- President: Curt A. Bertram, CO, FAAOP.
- Immediate past president: Timothy E. Miller, CPO.
- President-elect: James H. Wynne, CPO, FAAOP.
- Secretary-Treasurer: Christopher J. Fairman, CPO.
Also joining the leadership team as new board members are Jeanine Doty, CPO, CFm, RN, and Stephanie D. Langdon, CPO, FAAOP. They replace retiring board members Roy B. Davis III, PhD, and Donald D. Doty Jr., CPO.
Bertram began volunteering with ABC as both an orthotics examiner and exam team member. Since then, he has served on the executive, finance, and marketing committees, as well as on the O&P Alliance. He has also been an active participant in the certification exam process, having served on the orthotic exam team and as an orthotic clinical patient management examiner and site coordinator.
Since joining the ABC board in December 2009, Bertram has played a role in creating many of ABC’s current policies and brings with him nearly 23 years of experience working in the O&P profession.
“Curt’s long history of volunteerism and involvement in our programs makes him a natural leader for ABC,” said Catherine Carter, ABC’s executive director. “I look forward to working with him as he helps us move the board’s agenda forward.”
Bertram received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, in 1988 and attended Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, for his orthotic education and the Newington Certificate Program, Connecticut, for his prosthetics education. He earned his ABC certification in 1994. He currently works in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hanger Clinic patient care facility, serving as the company’s national orthotics specialist and has served as vice president for the United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin (UCPSEW) board of directors.
“I am both excited and humbled knowing the huge responsibility that lies before me,” Bertram said. “I’ve been a volunteer with ABC for over 16 years, and I am honored to now lead this passionate group of professionals. I hope to continue fulfilling our mission and vision….”
