Össur, Reykjavik, Iceland, and Evolution Industries, Orlando, Florida launched the new Össur Academy Orlando, with a two-day grand opening celebration on March 6 and 7. More than two dozen O&P professionals joined amputee models and executives from Össur and Evolution for the event, which began with speakers addressing the latest developments in O&P clinical education, product innovation, and patient outcome improvements. On the second day, attendees participated in specialized training courses with topics such as topics as functional assessments, reimbursement policies, best practices in treating osteoarthritis, trends affecting the O&P profession, and a bracing technologies workshop.

Össur Academy Orlando is housed in a new, 6,000-square-foot facility that features advanced motion tracking software and state-of-the-art equipment for evaluating orthotics and prosthetics performance. Specialty equipment includes a pressure measuring treadmill, a 30-foot Solo-Step ceiling-mounted walking system, a four-foot tall ramp, modular stairs, a 110-foot running track, a water rowing machine, and a 3D virtual sports simulator. Össur said it is the first comprehensive facility in the United States dedicated to product testing, research, and clinical education of noninvasive orthopedic technologies. Clinicians also may participate in advanced clinical education, product testing, and research and development activities.
