A study in the journal Ergonomics
provides evidence-based recommendations that can be used to inform exercise bra design to meet the needs of women who have undergone a mastectomy. Researchers from the University of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, collected 432 responses to an online survey to determine the post-mastectomy breast support that women want when they exercise. Responses were analyzed using a binary logistic regression to understand exercise bra issues pertinent to the population. The issues collected from the respondents included their need to control for asymmetrical cup sizes, manage heightened skin sensitivity, manage fluid (size) fluctuations, manage a prosthesis, and restore body image by restoring shape.
