The four Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors (DME MACs) have released a joint article that indicates the Myomo MyoPro™ has been evaluated and that the DME MACs and the Medicare Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding contractor (PDAC) have determined that the device must be coded as A-9300 (exercise equipment).
“This item falls within the durable medical equipment benefit category, not within the braces benefit,” the article states, further adding that exercise equipment is not covered by Medicare, so claims for A-9300 will be denied as non-covered.
Editor’s note: Based on a coding clarification advisory article issued May 8, 2012, the Myomo website references the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code to describe the MyoPro as A-3999 (upper limb orthosis, not otherwise specified).
