OPAF and the First Clinics held the sixth annual McKeever’s First Ride equine event on April 20 at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, Lawrenceville, Georgia. More than 200 people attended the event, which included therapeutic horseback riding, roping, grooming, groundwork, and carriage driving, as well as fencing, massage, arts and crafts, and live music.
The event is held in honor of Dan McKeever, CP, and was founded by his daughter, Deenie McKeever. She and OPAF board member Reggie Showers, who has bilateral transtibial amputations, spoke at the event. Representatives from Atlanta Horses for Heroes, an equine assisted-activities program for wounded warriors and their families, were on hand to assist. The event was sponsored by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC), and Ottobock, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
