Sylvia Matthews Burwell has been confirmed by Congress as the new secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), according to the White House. Her confirmation was approved by a 78-17 vote, and she is scheduled to take over once she is sworn in on June 9, according to the Washington Post. Matthews Burwell replaces outgoing secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
