The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced two new off-the-shelf (OTS) knee orthosis (KO) codes as part of its quarterly Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) update. The new codes, effective October 1, 2014, are:
- K-0901: Short description: KO single upright pre OTS. Long description: Knee orthosis (KO), single upright, thigh and calf, with adjustable flexion and extension joint (unicentric or polycentric), medial-lateral and rotation control, with or without varus/valgus adjustment, prefabricated, off-the-shelf). K-0901 is the OTS version of L-1843 (Knee orthosis (KO), single upright, thigh and calf, with adjustable flexion and extension joint (unicentric or polycentric), medial-lateral and rotation control, with or without varus/valgus adjustment, prefabricated item that has been trimmed, bent, molded, assembled, or otherwise customized to fit a specific patient by an individual with expertise).
- K-0902: Short description: KO double upright pre OTS. Long description: Knee orthosis (KO), double upright, thigh and calf, with adjustable flexion and extension joint (unicentric or polycentric), medial-lateral and rotation control, with or without varus/valgus adjustment, prefabricated, off-the-shelf). K-0902 is the OTS version of L-1845 (Knee orthosis (KO), double upright, thigh and calf, with adjustable flexion and extension joint (unicentric or polycentric), medial-lateral and rotation control, with or without varus/valgus adjustment, prefabricated item that has been trimmed, bent, molded, assembled, or otherwise customized to fit a specific patient by an individual with expertise).
