Fred Cato, CPO, LPO, passed away on August 14 at the age of 62. He was president and founder of Preferred Orthotic and Prosthetic Services, Federal Way, Washington.
Cato earned a bachelor of science degree in O&P in 1978 from the University of Washington, Seattle. In 1979, he opened his own facility in Tacoma, Washington, and established Preferred O&P Services in 1995. Cato also served as an examiner and committee member for the O&P national board exams.
According to an OANDP-L listserv posting by Karl Entenmann, CPO, vice president of Preferred O&P Services, “Fred…provided all levels of prosthetic care, as well as specializing in the orthotic treatment of scoliosis….He had many friends in the profession, as well as in the local medical community.”
