Becky Porter-Spiares, CFm, passed away on September 10 at the age of 54. Porter-Spiares was an account and national education executive for Nearly Me Technologies, Waco, Texas, a provider of mastectomy and fashion products, and was a member of the American Association of Breast Care Professionals (AABCP).
Prior to her work as a certified mastectomy fitter, Porter-Spiares owned and operated a medical equipment company, according to an OANDP-L listserv post by Rhonda Turner, PhD, JD, BOCPO, CFom, executive director of AABCP. Turner wrote that Porter-Spiares was a well-known and respected post-mastectomy professional and that her “strongly held beliefs, generous character, and compassionate heart endeared her both to her customers and friends alike.”
Porter-Spiares was born August 15, 1960, in Fort Hood, Texas, to Betty Ruth (Talley) Porter and Bobby Ray Porter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffrey Dwayne Spiares, who passed away November 2013, her father, and sister. She is survived by her mother, two sons, two granddaughters, two brothers, and several other family members.
