Michael Quigley, CPO, passed away on March 10 at the age of 67.
Quigley spent the majority of his O&P career as an instructor at Northwestern University from 1971 through 2009. He also held positions as a staff prosthetist at the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, from 1974 to 1977; as the director of P&O research at the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, Downey, California, from 1977 to 1981; and as a past president of the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP). In 2002, Quigley became president of Q and M Entertainment, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
As an active researcher, Quigley’s work has been published and referenced in many journals, and his instruction of decades of O&P students has widely increased the profession’s body of knowledge. Throughout his career, Quigley participated in humanitarian efforts, including as part of a medical needs assessment team under the direction of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), two trips to Brazil as the orthotics director on the hospital ship S.S. Hope, and at least 75 humanitarian visits to 29 countries affected by war.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Patricia Mollo; children, Kelly and Michael; three grandchildren; eight siblings, 21 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
