Össur, Reykjavik, Iceland, has entered into a licensing agreement with SpringActive, Tempe, Arizona, a privately held engineering firm that specializes in human compliant robotics and powered prosthetic devices. The multi-year agreement calls for Össur to be involved in final design, manufacturing, and commercialization activities for SpringActive’s Odyssey prosthetic ankle, which has already completed several months of field testing. The motorized prosthetic ankle system was designed to store and release energy in a motor-spring compliant actuator, with the intention of providing a fully-powered gait step similar to one taken by an able-bodied individual.
