Researchers at the Center for Bionic Medicine at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University are looking for volunteers to participate in a research study titled Application of Targeted Reinnervation for People with Transradial Amputation (STU00101444). The researchers are inviting those who have a unilateral transradial amputation to do laboratory and at-home testing of a multi-articulating hand. Participants must be willing to undergo targeted muscle reinnervation surgery, “an established surgical procedure that provides easier, more intuitive prosthesis control for individuals with arm amputations,” according to and OANDP-L listserv post. The principal investigator is Todd Kuiken, MD, PhD.
Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 95, have a unilateral transradial amputation, speak English , and be available for six visits to one of the study locations over the course of 12 months. Previous myoelectric users are preferred. Research participants will be compensated.
