The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) announced that a new member society, ISPO Ukraine, has been created to address the need to improve the country’s O&P knowledge base. Currently, the O&P sector is being driven by skilled individuals with no or limited specialized educational background.
According to the ISPO website, ISPO Ukraine plans to do the following:
- Work with the Ukraine educational institutes to establish dedicated regular orthotist-prosthetist courses
- Organize seminars and workshops with ISPO in Ukraine
- Act as a conduit between the O&P sector and the government
- Help the government make better laws for people with disabilities
- Create awareness in the civil society toward disability and rehabilitation and enhance the society’s role in it
- Act as a platform for and the voice of people with disabilities
