Harold Arno Schoene, CP, passed away July 6, as the result of lung cancer. He was 79 years old.
Schoene received his training in prosthetics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and Northwestern University, and was a founding member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. He was the former CEO and owner of Bardach-Schoene Prosthetic Lab, Elmwood Park, Illinois, which was established in 1936 by his uncle, Waldemar Schoene.
Schoene was considered an O&P pioneer and innovator in the Chicago area. For almost half a century he provided prosthetic care to thousands of children at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago. “He was a very caring and compassionate individual who was loved by all of his patients,” said his wife Phyllis Schoene.
Schoene is survived by his wife; children, Justine Gastrow and John Schoene; and grandchildren, Gianna and Francesca Gastrow and Giancarlo and Gatelle Sofia Schoene.
