Practitioners at American Prosthetics & Orthotics, headquartered in Clive, Iowa, recently hosted Congressman David Young (R-IA). Young toured the facility to learn how individuals with amputations learn to walk and run again through available technology. Leading the tour were Nick Ackerman, CP/L, director of prosthetics; Gary Cheney, CPO/L, FAAOP; director of compliance and patient services; and Don Shurr, CPO/L, PT.
The changing levels of Local Coverage Determination for Lower Limb Prostheses as proposed by the four Durable Medical Equipment Administrative Contractors, Recovery Audit Contractors audits, and delays in appeals to the Administrative Law Judge were the main topics of discussion.
“We also asked for and received [Young’s] support on H.R. 1526 [Medicare Audit Improvement Act of 2015] and H.R. 1530 [Medicare Orthotics and Prosthetics Improvement Act of 2015],” Cheney said.
