The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) reported that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes that will be effective for claims with a date of service on or after January 1, 2016. There were no O&P-related L-Codes added or deleted for 2016, but there were two wording changes for codes L-1902 and L-1904, which describe prefabricated and custom-fabricated ankle gauntlet-style devices, respectively.
The code descriptor changes are as follows:
- L-1902, new descriptor: Ankle orthosis, ankle gauntlet or similar, with or without joints, prefabricated, off-the-shelf (old descriptor: AFO, ankle gauntlet, prefabricated, off-the-shelf)
- L-1904, new descriptor: Ankle orthosis, ankle gauntlet or similar, with or without joints, custom fabricated (old descriptor: Ankle orthosis, ankle gauntlet, custom fabricated)
